Curriculum and Student Entitlement

Each student receives a tailored programme of study which will be assessed throughout the one year course duration and defined by their Education Health Care Plan. 

All students at Routes4Life are entitled to developing and refining skills within the areas shared below and in line with their EHCP outcomes.

  • Effective Communication -  communication that allows the student to access their local community
  • Staying Safe - awareness of hazards in their environment
  • Managing Relationships - emotional responses and forging new friendships
  • Good Hygiene Practices within our homes and local community - hygiene routines and cleaning routines in the home
  • Healthy Eating and Well-Being - ranging from portion control to emotional awareness
  • Social Awareness and Manners
  • Self-Care Skills (Dressing) - appropriate clothing for weather conditions
  • Health and First Aid and How to take Medication as prescribed
  • Community Knowledge and accessing facilities including shopping and restaurants - weekly shopping community visits
  • Navigation and Mobility Skills and How to Travel in the Community - with support while promoting independence
  • Organising Possessions - daily routines including looking after own items
  • Time and using a Calendar - recognising dates and times with basic calendar knowledge
  • Money Management Skill - recognising coins, bank cards and where they are used 

In addition students will receive a bespoke curriculum dependent on their next steps

Community Pathway to include:

  • Stranger Danger 
  • Road Safety
  • Community helpers
  • Community inclusion activities e.g. gym and allotment

Employability Pathway to include:

  • Employment profile
  • Travel training
  • Financial management
  • Employability skills including timekeeping, social skills and dressing appropriately 

Community Pathway Final Destinations:

  • PA supported community access and/or social care settings
  • Timetable of activities weekly
  • Focus on skill retention

Employability Pathway Final Destinations:

  • Supported or independent work placements
  • Supported or independent internships
  • Focus on skill development

Transition

Finally all students will be supported to their final adult destination and we are committed to ensuring we will:

  • Have an individualised plan in place
  • Make contact with external agencies when requested
  • Liaise with social care to ensure that we provide information regarding a provision suitable for our students
