Pathway to Supported Living

At Routes4Life we teach essential skills to learners who are being prepared to live as independently as they are able to.

This may be in supported living in a shared residence with others. They will all have the opportunity to learn independence skills and be supported within a programme that is individually tailored to their learning style and ability.

This pathway also incorporates skills about the assertion of personal rights and making choices, awareness of the motivation of others and managing relationships with others in various settings.

To summarise, subjects taught to promote independent living are:
  • Healthy Eating
  • Organising Possessions
  • Cooking and Cleaning
  • Money Management Skills
  • Shopping
  • How to Travel in the Community
  • Good Hygiene Practices
  • How to take Medication as prescribed
  • Self-Care Skills (Dressing)
  • Staying Safe
  • Managing Relationships
This pathway will include a coordinated, gradual and smooth transition. Support from Routes4Life Staff will be provided to ensure that skills learnt are generalised into the new home setting.
